FAQs

Dirt Road Candle Co. is a small, woman-owned business located in rural Iowa. 

Me (Michelle) and my small team of the kindest gals you’ll ever meet pour candles, hand soaps, counter sprays, and more in small batches from a warehouse/shop that’s on my family’s farm. Then, we ship them to customers like you across the country! 

I started DRCC in 2016, shortly after my husband and I bought our farm on a dirt road. I loved farm life, but I didn’t always love the smells that came with it, so DRCC was born! 

Our products are made in small batches and hand-poured by my team and me in my candle shop on my family’s farm. 

Our soy wax is harvested from soybeans raised in Iowa, and all of the materials, ingredients, and labels we use are also sourced from the USA.

Yes! Our candles are hand-poured in Iowa by my small-but-mighty team and myself using:

  • Soy Wax. As in soybeans, which are also grown and sourced in Iowa. Not petroleum – the headache maker most candles are made with :). 
  • 100% cotton wicks. A lot of mass-produced candles use lead in their wicks, but we don’t because - um, it’s lead. Pretty sure that’s headache maker numero grande.
  • The most naturally sourced fragrances available. Seriously, if you find a safer, more natural fragrance source than mine, I’ll bet the farm, my left ankle, and anything else you want. We use the best, most natural, most non-toxic stuff out there. Period!  

We are an online store only, but we do have two options for shopping our products in person!

We host a few open-house shopping events throughout the year where we throw open the doors and turn our shop into a storefront.

The majority of our products will ship USPS Priority Mail. 

If a different shipping method is preferred, please inquire about pricing by emailing hello@shopdirtroadcandleco.com.

You can expect to receive your items in roughly 3-5 business days. Please make sure you allow for a little extra time during the busy holiday season.

For local pickup, select the local pickup option at checkout. You will receive an email with pickup instructions when your order is ready for pick up!

We can imagine it would be the absolute biggest bummer of all time to order a fragrance or product and not love it. 

But, think of it like this: We would never sell you a candle that has had someone else’s nose on it! 

See what we mean? This is the main reason why we can’t accept returns, exchanges, or refunds on your order if you get it and don’t love it. 

Being unhappy with your order is super rare. 

But if it happens, our best recommendation is to keep the product in your gift closet for a rainy day or pass it on to a teacher, friend, or loved one who will enjoy it. 

Again, we are not able to offer refunds or returns on orders you don’t love, no matter the circumstances.

Navidiium Shipping Protection is automatically added to your order at checkout.  While you do have the option to opt-out of this protection, we highly, highly encourage you to keep it on your order. Here’s why:

If your order is lost, damaged, or stolen and you purchased the Navidium Shipping Protection, you can simply email hello@shopdirtroadcandleco.com, and we’ll happily make it right with a refund or replacement item.

If your order is lost, damaged, or stolen and you did not purchase the Navidium Shipping Protection, we cannot refund or replace your order. It will be a loss to you. 

As a small business, we cannot cover losses that occur during shipping unless you have shipping protection. Thank you for understanding and honoring this policy.

Absolutely! Navidium is a form of full-coverage shipping insurance that covers damaged, lost, or stolen items. 

Choosing this protection at checkout means you won’t have to take that damaged package back to the post office. Woohoo!! 

Simply send an email to hello@shopdirtroadcandleco.com, and we’ll get you set up with a refund or a replacement. 

The Navidium Shipping Protection is applied to your order automatically at checkout, but you do have the option to deselect it and checkout without it if you choose.

One trick we have discovered is that if your item is missing through USPS, you can contact them at their main customer service number, 1(800) 275-8777. You will need your tracking number, which can be found in your shipping confirmation email. 

This does not guarantee that your package will be recovered, but it might be worth a try.

We can’t stress enough how important it is to choose the Navidium Shipping Protection as checkout. This is the only way to guarantee a refund or replacement if your order is lost, damaged, or stolen in transit.

Our best-selling, most-universal, most-even-your-husband-will-love-it fragrance is Shiplap.

We recommend starting there. It’s clean, mellow, and you just can’t go wrong with this one. 

Shiplap. comes in a variety of products (candles, wall diffusers, air & room spray, etc.). Our favorites are the counter spray and hand soap!

We love this question! Here are my best recommendations for flameless products: 

1 - Room and Air Sprays - Just shake and spray! I use these …everywhere! In my bathroom and living room, on my furniture, in my car, on my dog, and on my bedspread every morning after I make the bed (which makes getting into bed at night feel like heaven!).

2 - Wall Diffusers - So easy to use! They last for 30-45 days and smell like a candle is 

constantly on. 

3- Car Freshies - Okay, you’re right, these aren’t technically for use in your house. But if you want to take your favorite home fragrances with you on the road (or sneak them into your teenager’s duffle-bag-infested vehicle), car freshies are what you need.

We offer easy fundraising services featuring candles in our most crowd-approved fragrances. (They basically sell themselves!)

HOW IT WORKS

1- Your group sells our 8 oz candles for a profit of $10/candle. Your customer will get three to five seasonal-based scents to choose from, depending on the season.

2- When your fundraiser ends, simply email us your quantities, and we’ll get busy fulfilling your orders. You’ll get everything within 2-3 weeks, tops!

4- You distribute the candles to your very happy customers.

We provide everything you need to run a successful fundraiser. We will supply you with an order form to keep track of the orders, and you can watch the profits roll in! 💵
