My Favorite Recipe for The Tastiest Christmas Caramels

My Favorite Recipe for The Tastiest Christmas Caramels

Happy December! I can’t believe 2021 is already coming to a close! I will keep this blog short and sweet since I know we’re in the midst of the crazy holiday season and I don’t know about y'all, but over here WE. ARE. BUSY!

I have been wanting to share this super tasty Caramel Recipe with you - it’s straight from my Grandma’s church cookbook and it’s one of my favorites! You’ll only need 6 ingredients (you probably already have most of them in your pantry) and with this recipe you’ll have around 60 caramels ready to be enjoyed in no time!

Helpful tip: before you start, make sure you have plenty of time (you’ll be standing and stirring for a while!) and you have all the ingredients pre-measured and the flour and sweetened condensed milk mixed together.

Church Cookbook Christmas Caramels

1/2 lb. butter or oleo

2 c. light corn syrup

2 c. Sugar

2 (15 oz.) cans sweetened milk

1/2 c. flour

1 tsp. vanilla

In a heavy pan, melt butter or oleo. Add corn syrup and sugar. Boil for 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Add 1 1/2 cans of sweetened condensed milk. Mix flour thoroughly with remaining milk, then add to corn syrup-sugar mixture. Boil until mixture darkens and forms a medium-hard ball (240°).

Stir constantly or the mixture will stick.

Add vanilla and pour into a buttered 9×13×2 inch pan. Allow to cool.

Cut into 1 inch pieces with a sharp knife. Wrap pieces in small squares of waxed paper or 5 x 5 inch cellophane sheets found here

Makes about 5 dozen pieces.

Enjoy!

Try pairing with these items for the perfect gift!

While these caramels are perfect for enjoying with your guests around the holidays, they can also make a great gift! Here are a few things that you can pair them with!

You can put our caramels in this cute glass milk bottle that you can find here! And then you can add a kitchen towel from our friend Regan at Doe A Deer, plus one of our 8 oz holiday candles, and then finish it off with an engraved gift tag from our friend Emily at R+M Wood Shop!

If you have a mother-in-law who is hard to shop for, she will definitely love this thoughtful gift idea!
