I would love nothing more than to pluck you outta your chair and bring you over to the Dirt Road Candle Co. shop. We’d spend the day drinking cold brew coffee, listening to country music, and sneaking off to the barn to obsess over the newborn calves.

Inside this blog, I’m taking you along with us for a typical day in the life here at DRCC headquarters.

9:00 a.m. - Woohoo – Liz arrives! If you’re new here, Liz is my couldn’t-do-it-without-her, full-time employee.
9:01 a.m. - Ever the multi-tasking girl bosses😅, we start working and playing fetch with Rowdy at the same time. Did you bring your throwing arm? You’re gonna need it.
9:30 a.m. - The rural mail carrier will be here at noon, so first things first: shipping!
We go through all the orders that came in overnight, package those bad boys up, and get them ready to ship to our customers.
Noon - We’ve been up to our elbows in a sea of boxes since this morning, but shipping is complete! Some days we box and send up to 100 orders in one day.💪 Whew - your girl is tired, and we need some lunch.
12:01 p.m. - Yes - we’re still throwing the ball for Rowdy. There’s no real rest for the weary over here. 😂 It’s a good thing he’s so stinkin’ cute.
1:00 p.m. - With shipping done, it’s time to start whatever project we’re working on for the day. Most days that means we’re making something – bulk pouring or restocking scents that are running low.
2:00 p.m. - Tammy, the FedEx carrier arrives! We know she’s here because the minute her vehicle pulls into the driveway, Rowdy loses.his.bananas. He acts like he’s running into a best friend he hasn’t seen in years … even though it’s only been 24 hours. Oh, to be loved by a dog.
4:00 p.m. - The day is winding down! We usually close our afternoons with some content planning or creation - making Reels, writing this email to you – that kind of thing.
5:00 p.m. - We wrap up for the day and tidy up the shop. Liz heads home and I head to my desk to respond to emails, pay bills, or order more supplies to make all the things!
6:30 p.m. - The shop is closed! Time to make supper, help my husband with a few chores around the farm, and play with Rowdy, who is the energizer bunny and will never tire from his beloved ball. (At this point, my arm is basically made of iron:).)
It might not sound like much, but this is my perfect day.
I love the people I work with, our incredible customers, the products we create, our mission, the dog, the routine - everything.
I think about this a lot. I used to work at a desk and I would just stare at the clock, wishing time to move faster.
Now? I look up and the day is over, and I feel excited to get to do it all over again tomorrow!
I mean … don’t get me wrong, nothing is 100% perfect all the time. You can sometimes find me cursing at the broken peanut packing machine or stressing out over decisions …
But, I love what I get to do.
Every day feels like a new beginning. A new adventure of possibilities that I get to live over and over again.
